Learn a bit more about how our lessons work

Chelsea

Parent and toddler class

 

*For children aged 18months and above

*Improve water confidence

*Prepare for independent swimming lessons

*Fun sessiom, including games, toys and songs

Pre-school lessons

 

*For children aged 3/4

*Go in the water without parents

*Work towards their Duckling badges

*By the end of the Duckling awards, the children should be confident at moving around the pool on their fronts and backs with aids, jumping in and getting their faces wet

Stage 1

 

By the end of stage 1, children should be able to:

*Enter and exit the water safely

*Understand pool rules and safety

*Move around on fronts and backs, using different equipment

Stage 2

 

By the end of stage 2, children should be able to:

*Push and glide on front and back

*Jump in the pool

*Swim on their front with their face in the water

*Have a competent leg kick (long legs, pointy toes etc)

Stage 3:

 

By the end of stage 3, children should be able to:

*Swim 10m front and back, using an over arm stroke

*Push, glide and log roll from front to back and back to front

*Swim to the pool floor (with a little bit of assistance if required)

Stage 4:

 

By the end of stage 4, children should be able to:

*Peform the correct leg action for all four strokes

*Swim 10m of favouirte stroke confidently

*Perform floating shapes on fronts and backs, as well as travelling rolls

Stage 5:

 

Whilst working towards stage 5, children who are swimming at Jubilee, should swap to Turton or Canon Slade, to improve their stamina and strength

 

By the end of stage 5, children should be able to:

*Peform all four strokes with good tecnique

*Peform a hand stand, forward roll and tread water

Stage 6

 

Whilst working towards stage 6, children should take part in a personal survival class and a distance challenge lesson.

 

By the end of stage 6, children should be able to:

*Swim all four strokes with correct breathing technque, for at least 6 rhythmical breaths .

*Perform a surface dive and a seated dive

Stage 7

 

By the end of stage 7, children should be able to:

*Swim 25m of all four strokes with excellent technique

*Swim a minimum of 100m without stopping

*Perform a sequence including water skills, such as treading water, sculling, rolls etc.

*Perform a dive

*Begin learning racing technique such as starts and turns

Ready to move onto a swimming club if the child would like or can stay at Turton to work towards:

 

Bronze, Silver and Gold Challenge awards

All of our classes follow the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming and we are also a member of the ASA Swim School Scheme, which means we maintain consitently high standards in our lessons.
